History
Mon is the Headquarters of the Konyak district which is the biggest district in Nagaland with an area of 1786 Sq. km and a population of over 1,41,699. On 10th June 1980, the first group of Catholic missionaries, Fr. Peter Bianchi and Fr. Justin Lyngkhoi came to Mon, the district headquarters.
The search for a place for the school ended when Mr. Chingai offered his school to the fathers. The English Medium school run by Mr. C. Shingwang which had up to Class VI, was handed over to Don Bosco. On 11th February 1981 the new school building and the residence of the fathers were blessed by Mgr. Abraham Alangimattathil. In the evening the school in the Town was inaugurated by Fr. Thomas Panakezham, Regional Superior.
Today
There are about 140 Catholics who are catered to from Don Bosco, Mon. In 2007 there were 1753 students and 40 teachers in the school. About 95% of the students in the school belong to the Konyak tribe. There are 50 boarders in the boarding for boys run by the Salesians of Don Bosco.
