The Salesians came to northeast India in 1922. Since then they have made inroads in entire northeast India setting their presences in all the tribes and cultures of Northeast India. They have grown in to three provinces. The Provinces of Guwahati, Dimapur and Shillong. Each province has within itself considerable number of Salesian religious priests and clerics working among the people and tribes of Northeast India.They run schools, colleges, University, Social developmental works.
Apart from the Catholics and christians, the general public consisting of people of other religions also appreciate Salesians for their involvement in the field of education, social work and Young at Risk.
