Bosco B.Ed celebrates its Foundation Day 2017

DIMAPUR, MARCH 17

Bosco College of Teacher Education (BCTE) aka Bosco B. Ed College, Dimapur, celebrated its 15th foundation cum cultural day on 17 March 2017, with Mr. Joel N. Kath, Chairman of  ACAUT (Against Corruption And Unabated Taxes) as Chief Guest, and Fr. Nestor Guria SDB, Salesian Provincial of Dimapur as Guest of Honour.

It may be recalled that that the final permission to start the said college was granted by the National Council for Teacher Education on 17 January 2003. On 01 March 2003 the inaugural function was held. Three days later B. Ed classes commenced in the first floor of Salesian College library. There were 55 students in the first year. Sr. Gertrude Rosakutty  SABS was the first Principal of the BCTE.

On 21 August 2004 the newly constructed edifice of the said college was blessed by Fr. Joachim D’Souza SDB, Regional Councilor for South Asia. Since then the B. Ed classes began in the present site and the college made rapid progress to become one of the premier B. Ed colleges in the state of Nagaland. Till date BCTE has been able to train 1300 teachers in the course of 15 years. Though majority of the 147 students are from Nagaland, the presence of a few students from Assam, Kerala, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Odisha, Rajasthan, West Bengal etc. greatly enriches and lends a pan – India colour to the Bosco College of Teacher Education, Dimapur.

In the beginning of the day’s programme Fr. Dr. Joseph Thuruthel, Principal of BCTE, welcomed the Chief Guest, Guest of Honour and all present. After presenting a brief history of BCTE, he stressed the need of knowing and preserving one’s culture while respecting those of the others.

Fr. Nestor Guria, Guest of Honour, said teachers have the noble task of identifying the qualities and talents of students and “train them to fly high.”

Mr. Joel N. Kath, ACAUT Chairman and Chief Guest of the day warned the teacher trainees of many divergent world views – secularism, liberal thoughts, scientific naturalism, post modernism etc., which were taught in western universities and can be harmful. He added that cultural hegemony comes in small doses – e. g. ban on beef eating, universalizing yoga, Sanskrit in CBSE schools, etc. could have hidden agendas, he opined. The LTTE, Islamic fundamentalists, satanic worship groups etc. try to brainwash young minds. The teachers have the great responsibility to mould young minds and impart correct world views into them if we want to save the future of our society from moral decay and gradual destruction.

The other events of the Foundation cum Cultural Day celebration included prayer dance, power-point presentation on the history of the college, colourful cultural dances, melodious solos and group singing and the final benediction. The day concluded with refreshment for all.
